The Project

New build extension to create an 18 flat/88 bedroom Hall of Residence whilst retaining the outer façade

DLS: ARCH were instructed to refurbish and extend the existing Edwardian Building, which used to consist of two storey classrooms around a large central space. In addition, the building was sensitive in planning terms as it was locally listed.

DLS: ARCH obtained a hard fought planning consent for the developer and then worked under a design and build contract to bring the scheme to completion.

An extensive and complex structural frame retained the main facade, whilst the remainder of the build was new build to match existing. Careful working of the internal spaces allowed an additional floor to be added, enabling a scheme of 18 flats / 88 bedrooms in total to be created.
